By Shilpa Nair: The district administration in Tamil Nadu’s Karur came under the pump over the felicitatation of employees of – TASMAC – the state-run liquor corporation on Republic Day. A certificate saying the employees were honoured for “generating revenue for the state-owned TASMAC”.
Several activists and opposition leaders questioned the district administration over the certificate.

However, when India Today spoke to the Karur District Collector, he claimed the certificate was tampered with and that he had given away only shields to those who were honoured.
He said the situation had been “blown out of proportion” and called the issue “unnecessary”. He added that it was normal practice to honour well-performing employees from the government departments during Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations.
On Republic Day, the district administration honoured over 350 people, including government employees like sanitation workers, overhead tank workers, etc, for their work.
