Meghalaya’s National People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma and Nagaland’s Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio are set to be sworn in as chief ministers today.

NDPP’s Neiphiu Rio and NPP’s Conrad Sangma will be sworn in as chief ministers of Nagaland and Meghalaya.
By India Today News Desk: While the coalition government led by National People’s Party (NPP) leader Conrad Sangma will be sworn in on Tuesday morning in Meghalaya, an all-party government led by Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio will take oath later in the day in Nagaland.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Manik Saha, will take oath as the chief minister of the saffron-party led alliance government in Tripura on Thursday, a day after Holi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose BJP party is a junior partner in both states, is likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony at both capitals of the two northeastern states, official sources told PTI.

Rio, 72, who is set to serve as chief minister for a fifth term, is leading an all-party government in Nagaland. This is not the first time the state has had an all-party government, as such coalitions have been formed in the past to facilitate tripartite talks with the central government and former rebels of the NSCN (IM) to reach a peace agreement.
In the recent Nagaland polls, the NDPP-BJP coalition secured 37 out of 60 seats in the Assembly, and other parties subsequently offered their support to the alliance led by Rio.

In Meghalaya, the NPP-led alliance has also staked its claim to form the government with 45 MLAs, including two from the BJP, supporting it.
The NPP chief, Conrad K Sangma, who won 26 seats in the February 27 elections, will be sworn in as chief minister for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, along with other cabinet ministers. On Monday, the newly elected MLAs were sworn in as members of the assembly in the presence of pro-tem speaker Timothy D Shira and Sangma.
