‘Raj Niwas open for all’: Delhi L-G denies spending Rs 15 cr on official residence

By India Today News Desk: Amid a row over Rs 45 crore spent on renovation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena on Sunday said his residence, Raj Niwas, is open for all and anyone to see the renovations, if any.

The remark by Delhi L-G came in response to allegations by Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party on the expenditure for the renovation of Raj Niwas.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh had on Wednesday made the allegation saying Saxena spent Rs 15 crore on repair work alone at his official residence, which is built on six acres of land.

“Raj Niwas is open for all, anyone can come and see it anytime,” Saxena told reporters.

Lt Governor VK Saxena, who has ordered a report on the renovation of the CM’s residence within 15 days, said, “My house [Raj Niwas] is open to the media. They can come and see the size and the renovation that has been done.

The BJP has accused the Delhi government of spending Rs 45 crore on the renovation of the CM residence 6, Flagstaff Road during peak Covid. A Raj Niwas order issued on April 27 cited reports of alleged “gross irregularities” in the renovation of the residence by the PWD.

The amount was spent in six trenches between September 2020 to June 2022, the documents showed.

“I have sought a report. The chief secretary will provide a report on this matter,” VK Saxena said on Sunday.
