By Abdul Basheer, Apoorva Jayachandran : The election bugle was sounded in poll-bound Andhra Pradesh as former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced a slew of schemes that would be rolled out if his party, TDP, was voted back to power. The TDP chief, ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls, announced various welfare schemes for different sections if his party reassumed the state leadership.
Naidu’s poll promises for women
Addressing the TDP’s Mahanadu on Sunday, Chandrababu Naidu promised to pay Rs 1,500 each month to every woman who has attained majority and completed 18 years of age. This means Rs 18,000 per annum and Rs 90,000 over a period of five years. He said the allowance would be given under his party-led Andhra government’s Guarantee for Future (Bhavishyathuku Guarantee).
Naidu also said that under the Talliki Vandanam Scheme, every mother will be paid Rs 15,000 per annum and that three cylinders would be supplied to every family under the Deepam Scheme.
Employment/Farmers’ welfare
Naidu further said that 20 lakh posts will be filled in various government wings for the youth of Andhra under the Yuva Galam Scheme and till they receive employment, an allowance of Rs 3,000 each will be paid every month from the scheme’s fund.
He said that the farmers struggled during the pandemic and that the TDP government would pay Rs 20,000 to each farmer every year to meet the agricultural expenditure. Naidu also assured safe drinking water at each doorstep in Andhra Pradesh.
The former chief minister promised to bring in legislation for the safety and security of the backward classes.
YSRCP LEADERS RESORTING TO CHEAP POLITICS: NAIDU
He said that the YSRCP leaders have been resorting to cheap and useless politics. Naidu added, “We will continue fair and gentle politics if the ruling party is decent or we will move ahead by crushing them.”
Maintaining that it was during TDP regime that developmental projects were implemented in the state, the former chief minister said that several economic reforms had also be brought about.
Despite a Rs 16,000-crore deficit budget, several welfare programmes were implemented and the pension was increased from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000 while the lopan scheme was also successfully implemented, Naidu said.
“I proposed Amaravathi only with the intention that the Telugu people should have an excellent capital and took up the Polavaram project solely to see to it that every acre should have irrigation water supply. During my tenure, 72 per cent of the project work was completed,” the TDP supremo said.
Further, Naidu said the young people wanted the TDP back in power.
CM REDDY MEETS AMIT SHAH IN DELHI
On the other hand, Andhra CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Delhi on Sunday and held discussions for over 40 minutes on state-related issues. In the meeting, CM Reddy pressed that unresolved issues between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, at the time of bifurcation, should be expedited.
He also discussed the issues of division of assets as per Schedule 9 and 10, including Adnr Bhavan.
The electricity dues receivable from the Telangana government was also mentioned and he urged that steps should be taken to clear these dues.
