Liquor worth Rs 7 lakh was seized from an ambulance by the Limbdi police in Dahod.

By Saurabh Vaktania: As the New Year is just around the corner, ambulances, trucks and various other transportation modes are being used by smugglers to transport liquor in the dry state, Gujarat.

Recently, liquor worth Rs 7 lakh was seized from an ambulance by the Limbdi police in the Dahod district.

A police officer said, “We have arrested one person in the matter who was driving the ambulance. We have also seized cash worth Rs 59,000 from the accused. Mostly, the alcohol came from the Madhya Pradesh side. Further investigation is on in the matter.”

In another incident, foreign liquor worth over Rs 26 lakh was seized by the Kheda police. According to police officials, on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad national highway, a truck was smuggling liquor.

“The truck had a Haryana registration plate. During checking, a police team found 174 boxes of foreign liquor. The driver of the truck escaped, leaving behind the truck,” a police official said.

An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway on the matter.

A police official said, “Ahead of December 31, liquor is being widely smuggled in Gujarat. However, the police are very active and have increased patrolling and check points. All the entry and exit points on the Gujarat borders are secured at the moment.”

Recently alcohol was also seized from the Ahmedabad district.
