Women officers to be commissioned in artillery corps, says Army chief

The Army is all set to commission women officers into the artillery corps, said Army Chief General Manoj Pande at the Annual Army Day press conference on Thursday.

By Manjeet Negi: The Indian Army is set to soon commission women officers in the artillery corps. Women officers would soon be seen handling rocket systems and howitzers.

Speaking at the Annual Army Day press conference on Thursday, Army chief General Manoj Pande said that a proposal had been sent to the government for the same.

“Women officers would be commissioned into the Indian Army’s Corps of Artillery. We have sent the proposal to the government and we hope that it will be accepted,” said the Army Chief General.

He also spoke about the situation on the northern borders and said that while the situation is stable but “unpredictable.”

General Manoj Pande said that the “situation is stable on the northern borders and under control but unpredictable. We were able to resolve five of the seven issues on the table in the talk. We are prepared and we have enough reserves to deal with any contingencies.”

During the event, the top army official spoke at length about the situation around the northern borders. “In the northeast, peace has returned to most of the states. The economic activities have yielded good returns. This Army Day is special as it is also the 75th year of independence, we are also fully aligned with the future national vision,” said the Army chief.
