After Nashik, blast at cracker factory in Maharashtra’s Solapur kills 3

Three people were killed and several others sustained injuries in a massive fire that broke out after a blast at a firecracker factory in Maharashtra’s Solapur.

By India Today Web Desk: At least three people were killed and as many others injured in a major fire that broke out after a blast at a firecracker factory in Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Sunday, police said. The blaze erupted at the unit located at Shirala in Barshi taluka around 3 pm, an official said.

“There was a blast inside the firecracker manufacturing unit, which led to the fire,” he said. “After being alerted, the fire brigade and police personnel rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation,” he said. Barshi is located around 400 km from Mumbai.

The incident comes close on the heels after a massive fire broke out in a factory located in Mundegaon village of Igatpuri tehsil in Nashik district in which two people were killed and seventeen were injured.

After the mishap, the situation was monitored by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

“Officials from the local administration and the district’s Guardian minister are present here. Maharashtra CM and Deputy CM are monitoring the situation. Teams deployed to douse fire at the poly film factory,” Union MoS Health, Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar told ANI.

Eknath Shinde met the injured victims undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nashik and said that the expense of treating them will be borne by the state government. The chief minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs for the families of the deceased and has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
