Uddhav Thackeray is looking to strengthen his Sena against the BJP
By Mustafa Shaikh: Once again, talks of an alliance between the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) have started doing the rounds after a meeting between Thackeray and the VBA chief, Prakash Ambedkar, at a five-star in Mumbai. Both parties maintained secrecy about the meeting, with the venue being changed at the last minute.

Prakash Ambedkar is the grandson of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Uddhav and Ambedkar’s common goal is to take on the coalition of the BJP and the RPI (A). The Republican Party of India (Athawale) or RPI(A) is an offshoot of BR Ambedkar’s political ideology.

The meeting lasted about two hours. Sources said that though senior leaders like Milind Narvekar, MP Vinayak Raut from the Shiv Sena (UBT) were present at the hotel, the meeting took place between Thackeray and Ambedkar only. The upcoming Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC Election) and other municipal elections, seat allocation, accommodating the VBA while taking care that there is no trouble for the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress are likely to have been the subject of discussion.
After Prakash Ambedkar formed the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, he sent a proposal for the Aghadi to the Congress and the NCP. Ambedkar said on Monday that his discussions with Thackeray’s Sena are underway. The media will be informed once things are finalized, he added.
Shiv Sena has had a turbulent history with the Dalit rights groups. Like its coalition with the Congress, this alliance will also be an unprecedented alliance for the Sena.
