Punjab Police arrest Amritpal Singh’s key aide Papalpreet Singh, book him under NSA
Papalpreet would be lodged with his other eight accomplices — Daljeet Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke, Harjeet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Gurinder Pal Singh, and Varinder Singh — all detained under National Security Act (NSA).
Police had invoked NSA against Papalpreet Singh, a resident of Marari Kalan village near Majithia in Amritsar district.
Absconding since March 18 along with Amritpal, Papalpreet was arrested on April 10 from Kathunangal village near Amritsar by police. On the run, Papalpreet and Amritpal separated on March 28.
Meanwhile, Amritpal’s village Jallupur Khera was caught in the grip of a mystery.
Neither Amritpal’s family members nor the local residents are ready to talk about Amritpal. Still, rumours abound that Amritpal could also be arrested in the near future which will draw the curtain on Operation Amritpal.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) general secretary Gurcharan Singh Garewal informed that as per the directions of the Akal Takht, SGPC would provide all kinds of legal aid to those detained at Dibrugarh jail including Papalpreet.
He informed that a team comprising of advocates — Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Rohit Sharma — had already visited Dibrugarh and taken the power of attorney and other related documents from the detainees besides arrangements had been made with local lawyers for pursuing the case.
