NEW DELHI: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed‘s son Asad had two bullet injuries while his aide had one gunshot wound, doctors who performed their postmortem examination confirmed on Friday.
Asad and his aide Ghulam were shot dead by a UP Special Task Force (STF) team in an encounter in Jhansi on Thursday.
Dr Narendra Sengar, principal of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi said that the police brought the two gangsters to the hospital and they were declared dead after a medical examination.
“Under the legal process, the postmortem was conducted. The whole body X-Ray was done. The post-mortem examination was carried out by a team of doctors in the medical college,” he said.
“Asad had two bullet injuries whereas Ghulam had only one. There were no signs of ‘rigor mortis’. I think they died 1.30-2 hours before they were brought here. Their post-mortem has been conducted,” Dr Narendra Sengar told news agency ANI.
“The bullet had pierced through a vital organ of Ghulam. He was profusely bleeding from his back when he came,” he added.

<p>Atiq Ahmad, a mafia don-turned-politician, who entered the world of crime in 1979 when he was accused of murder, now has 100 criminal cases lodged against him.</p>
<p>The 62-year-old became active in politics in 1989 and made his debut in representative politics in the same year, winning the Allahabad West assembly seat as an Independent.</p>
<p>A five-time legislator, Atiq was with the Samajwadi Party in 2004 when he was elected as MP from Phulpur — the seat once held by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.<br /></p>
<p>He came to limelight in January 2005, when BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead in broad daylight in Prayagraj.</p>
<p>The most recent case of Atiq was registered with the Dhoomanganj police station of Prayagraj in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal, the main witness of the murder of MLA Raju Pal.</p>
<p>Atiq has as many as 100 cases registered in his name from as long as 1985.<br /><br /></p>
<p>In March, MP-MLA court of Prayagraj pronounced him guilty in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case. Atiq and his aides allegedly abducted him in 2006 and forced him to give a statement in court in their favour.</p>
<p>On Thursday, Atiq’s son Asad was killed in an encounter with UP cops in Jhansi. Asad was wanted in Umesh Pal murder case and was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh.</p>
<p>The chief judicial magistrate, Prayagraj on Thursday sent Atiq and his brother Ashraf to 14-day judicial custody and also allowed a 5-day police remand for both of them in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. </p>
Both Asad and Ghulam were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case of Prayagraj. Each of them carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh.
Mohd Asad, 20, and Ghulam Mohd, 40, were killed after they were intercepted by the police on a bike near Jhansi.
Both were on the run for the past 50 days since being accused of killing Prayagraj lawyer Umesh Pal, the main witness in the 2005 murder of BSP legislator Raju Pal.
Atiq and his brother Ashraf are the main suspects in the MLA’s killing.
With these deaths, the four accused allegedly involved in Pal’s murder have been killed so far.
Special DG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said police had inputs the two were planning to ambush a convoy bringing Atiq from Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj via Jhansi.
