By Rittick Mondal: The Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday said he will not attend Governor CV Ananda Bose’s ‘Hate Khori’ event because the state government has “cunningly orchestrated” it to wash off its stains. ‘Hate Khori’ is a Hindu ritual celebrated to mark a person writing the first letters of the Bengali alphabet.

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose’s Hate Khori event was scheduled to take place at the governor’s official residence on January 26 on the day of Saraswati Puja.

Suvendu Adhikari applauded the Governor’s interest in learning Bengali and slammed the state government for “exploiting” his wishes as an “opportunity for political posturing”.

The BJP leader said the government has “cunningly orchestrated” this event to “wash off the stain” surrounding the Bengal education scam and the fact that former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and other office bearers are “languishing in prison”.

Partha Chatterjee and his alleged close associate Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in October in connection with the SSC recruitment scam. The agency had seized Rs 49.80 crore in cash, apart from bullion, jewellery and property deeds from the latter’s flats in the city, on July 23.

Suvendu Adhikari also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that she was the chief guest of the Hate Khori event but it is her who has “time and again expressed her unreasonable opinion that the post of Governor should be abolished”.

The Opposition leader said, “I can’t bear witness to such an inappropriate and laughable situation which has been arranged by spending the tax payer’s money”.
