Bhumi Pednekar has been making some really unique choices in her career ever since she made her debut with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Even to start out with a film like that where she needed to put on so much weight was gutsy. Post that, Bhumi has been a part of many niche films like ‘Bheed’, ‘Afwaah’, among many others. But in a recent interview, the actress has credited Alia Bhatt and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘ and confessed that the film’s success gave her courage.
Alia carried the film on her shoulders and shined in every frame. Not to mention, the film was a hit at the box office and also got Alia her first National Award. Talking about it, Bhumi opened up in an interview with Bollywood Bubble and said that as women, they shouldn’t get insecure about each other. Because if her film does well, it will also open doors for many other actresses. Just like, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ opened up doors for Bhumi and gave her the courage to do more solo movies and stronger female parts.
Bhumi also addressed the fact that she’s not the traditional, conventional heroine. However, she’s going to change the narrative and change the definition of a conventional heroine. That is what has kept her going and given her the confidence to do solo films.
The actress was last seen in ‘Thank You For Coming’ which was a female-centric movie. It starred Shehnaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi alongside Bhumi. The film also had Anil Kapoor in a cameo.
Bhumi will be seen next in ‘The Lady Killer‘ with Arjun Kapoor. The actress had spoken about this movie during an exclusive chat with ETimes and said, “It’s a film that has really challenged Arjun and me. And the audience hasn’t seen us look or performed this way in the past. This year has come as a spectrum where I’ve tried to do many different genres.”
