By Lalit Sharma: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring criticised the 2023 Union Budget, stating it ‘disappointed’ all sections of society. Deeming the fiscal document as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led (BJP) government’s ‘classic jumla’ (empty promises), Warring said the Budget was not a good enough parting gift as presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on Wednesday.
“Since it was going to be the last budget of the BJP government, not just in the current term but for a long time to come, we hoped that the FM would give some nice parting gift to the people of the country, but she has proved to be quite disappointing”, Warring said while reacting to the Union Budget here today.
The PCC president asked the finance minister to spell out how the Budget would help the common man.
“What matters is how it helps in ameliorating the sufferings of the common man, which it has grossly failed to address”, Warring remarked, while pointing out that the Budget has no proper provision which could spur some hope for employment and income generation, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic.

He further condemned the Budget for not paying heed to the concerns of Punjab, especially the agriculture sector.
A cursory glance at the budget suggests that the ‘agriculture sector remains the least and the last’ priority for this government, he said.
In Punjab, the chief minister also slammed the Union Budget. Bhagwant Mann said, “Earlier, Punjab was missing from the table of 26th January… Now Punjab is missing from the country’s budget… It is a matter of great sadness that no relief for the farmers was given in the budget… Not even one of the suggestions was sent by Punjab. A proposal was made in the budget… the central government is acting with the spirit of revenge against Punjab…,” he said.
