By Rajesh Saha: After pressing into service three motor pumps to drain water from a pond near TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha’s residence, a JCB machine to dig out mud and putting in 66 hours, the CBI on Monday finally recovered the second phone that the MLA threw when the officials approached him to probe him in the Bengal teachers’ recruitment scam.
On Thursday, the CBI searched the residence of TMC MLA from Burdwan constituency Jiban Krishna Saha and seized two mobile phones. However, the MLA allegedly snatched his mobile phones from the CBI officers and threw them into a pond behind his residence.
While one mobile phone was recovered on Sunday, searches were on to locate the second mobile phone which was retrieved on Monday.
Besides the three motor pumps that were pressed into service to drain water from the pond and retrieve the mobile phones, a JCB machine was also used to dig out mud and retrieve the second phone.

Both the mobile phones will now be sent for forensic examination. Sources in the CBI said a massive amount of evidence and Whatsapp chats recovered from the mobile phones would lead to new revelations about the teachers’ recruitment scam. “It’s important to recover the data from the mobile phones as it can play a vital role in the investigation of the teacher’s recruitment scam,” said a CBI officer.
Meanwhile, a CBI team led by an SP rank officer reached Jiban Krishna Saha’s Murshidabad residence on Sunday and after prolonged questioning, arrested the TMC MLA on Monday for his alleged involvement in the teachers’ recruitment scam. The CBI also added relevant sections of the IPC for not cooperating with the investigation officers and trying to destroy evidence in front of the CBI officers.
While conducting the searches at the TMC MLA’s residence, the CBI recovered five bags of documents from bushes adjacent to the boundary wall of his house. The alleged documents affixed with photographs of aspiring candidates who had submitted bribe money were recovered, said an official.
