CBI seeks 3-day custody of ex-ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar, her husband in loan fraud case

By India Today Web Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday produced former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar, and her husband, Deepak Kochhar before a special Mumbai court and sought their custody for three days. Chanda Kocchar and her husband were arrested yesterday in a loan fraud case.

The central probe agency told the court that both of them did not cooperate during the investigation and hence were arrested.

Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar were arrested by CBI officers in connection with alleged cheating and irregularities in loans sanctioned by the ICICI Bank to Videocon Group in 2012.

The CBI had booked Chanda Kochhar, her husband and Venugopal Dhoot of Videocon Group, along with companies Nupower Renewables, Supreme Energy, Videocon International Electronics Ltd and Videocon Industries Limited, as accused in the FIR registered under IPC sections related to criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

It is alleged that Videocon promoter Venugopal Dhoot allegedly invested crores of rupees in Nupower months after the Videocon Group got Rs 3,250 crore as loan from ICICI Bank.

It was alleged that the accused sanctioned certain loans to private companies in a criminal conspiracy with others to cheat ICICI Bank, the CBI had said in a statement after filing the FIR in 2019.
