Chhapra violence: Second victim dies, internet ban extended till Feb 10

By Rohit Kumar Singh: One of the victims in the Chhapra violence case, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Patna, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday evening, taking death toll in the case to two.

Rahul Kumar Singh, who was extremely critical and undergoing treatment at Ruban hospital in Patna, died while the third victim, Alok Kumar Singh, is still undergoing treatment.

The incident took place in Mubarakpur village under Manjhi police station on February 2 when some unidentified persons opened fire on the village head’s husband, Vijay Yadav.

Following the incident, Vijay and his aides called three youths – Amitesh Singh, Rahul Kumar and Alok Kumar – to his chicken farm located in Sidharia Tola, tied their hands and legs, and brutally assaulted them.

Vijay suspected that Amitesh and his friends had allegedly fired at him on February 2. Following the brutal assault, the victims were admitted to a hospital where Amitesh succumbed due to injuries.

Amitesh’s family members and relatives attacked the house of Vijay Yadav and set it on fire. They also set ablaze houses in the village belonging to Vijay and his supporters.

Police have registered 6 FIRs in this case till now and 13 persons have been arrested. However, Vijay Yadav, the prime accused in the case, is still absconding.

The state administration on Wednesday started the process of attaching Vijay Yadav’s property after he continued to evade arrest.

Meanwhile, the home department of the Bihar government has extended the ban on internet services in the district till February 10. Earlier, internet services were suspended in Chapra till Feb 8.

Massive police deployment continues to remain in Mubarakpur village and surrounding areas under Manjhi police station.
