Cirkus collected about Rs 6-6.25 crore nett on Day 2, reports Box Office India. The collections were pretty much in the same range as Day 1 as major centres and multiplexes failed to show any growth. This takes the two day business of the film to around Rs 12 crore nett.
Poor review and negative word of mouth on social media has impacted the film immensely. A section of the audience even drew comparisons with other box office disaster films of 2022 like Heropanti 2, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Rashtra Kavach OM stating that these films were so bad that you could actually burst into laughter in the intense moments; alas, the same could not be said about Cirkus. Netizens tagged Rohit Shetty’s film as ‘lazy, hollow and absolutely painful’!
Speaking to ETimes, trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “The indication started coming in right from the moment the trailer came out. It was not appreciated or liked by the audience. But at the same time the trailers of Rohit Shetty films have always been weak but they always generated the necessary hype which transformed to big opening numbers. But post pandemic the audience has become very selective. If the first impression goes wrong then you have low chances of bouncing back. Earlier the people at least used to come to cinemas on the first day and then the fate of the film was decided upon its merits. Rejection or selection happened after the first couple of shows. But now the scenario is different. Also there are talks that after his nude photoshoot, Ranveer Singh has devalued his image and standing. The bad reviews pouring in immediately after the first show started the downslide of the film.”
