This instance shows how genuine the AAP’s intentions were toward women as it has not issued a single rupee under this scheme after forming the government, Congress leader Pratap Bajwa said.

By Lalit Sharma: Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday rebuked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, the state’s ruling party, for its deliberate attempt to stop issuing the funds under the Shagun scheme (now Aashirwad Scheme). The Aashirwad scheme entitles girls belonging to the underprivileged sections, Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribes to have financial assistance during their marriage.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa, while citing the media reports, said that the government has been receiving thousands of files from those, who were asking for benefits of the same scheme. “However, the government has turned a blind eye to them. Since the AAP got hold of power in the state in March 2022, it hasn’t issued a single rupee under this scheme,” Bajwa said, hitting out at the AAP.
“This instance shows how genuine the AAP’s intentions were toward women as it has not issued a single rupee under this scheme after forming the government,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that the financial assistance under the scheme was increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 in July 2021.

“Despite the fact that the AAP government before elections made lofty claims to provide Rs 1000 per month to women over the age of 18 years. The much-hyped scheme is yet to be launched. The government seems to have befooled the women to garner their votes before assembly elections”, LoP added.
Qadian legislator, Bajwa said that these instances, in which the AAP government has failed completely, demonstrate how genuine the AAP’s intentions were toward the women. “It is soon going to be a year since the AAP formed the government, and it has not commenced the scheme for women,” the Congress leader said.
“The AAP government must explain what made it stop issuing grants under the previous scheme. It has yet to release crores of rupees to the beneficiaries under the Shagun Scheme, while Rs 1000 p/m to women has not yet started”, Bajwa added.
