Corruption case against IPS Amit Lodha who inspired Netflix show ‘Khakee’

The web series ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter” is the story of how a police officer manages to nab a dreaded gangster.

By Sujeet Jha: The Special Monitoring Unit of Bihar Police has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Bihar cadre Indian Police Service officer Amit Lodha, who came to limelight after the web series “Khakee” based on his book “Bihar Diaries” was released. FIR was lodged against Lodha under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code’s Sections 120 (B) related to criminal conspiracy and 168 (public servant unlawfully engaging in trade).

The police FIR states that Lodha used “black money” for the web series. The FIR also states that Lodha was not authorised to write a book and use it for commercial purposes.

“Despite being a government servant, the then Magadh range inspector general, Amit Lodha illegally entered into private/commercial activities with Netflix and Friday Story Teller Private Limited, a company that produced Khakee web series,” the FIR stated.

“In view of their involvement and activities, the investigation report made by the investigating agencies was reviewed by the police and actions were taken,” it added.

“In order to earn illicitly and to convert the black money into white, he used a book ‘Bihar Diary’ written by him for [the] production of a web series ‘Khakee the Bihar chapter’ by resorting to illegal activities,” the FIR stated further.

The web series ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter” is the story of how a police officer manages to nab a dreaded gangster who had created a reign of terror in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district. The show is based on a book, Bihar Diaries, written by Lodha himself.
