EP Jayarajan has been accused of corruption by party colleague P Jayarajan (R)

By Shibimol KG: In a major embarrassment for the CPM in Kerala, senior party leader P Jayarajan has reportedly levelled corruption charges against LDF convener EP Jayarajan, accusing him of illegally acquiring property for an ayurveda resort in Kannur. Both P Jayarajan and EP Jayarajan are CPIM strongmen from Kannur and the latest has divided the party faction in Kannur.

The allegation was raised at the recently-concluded state committee meeting in which EP Jayarajan was not present. At the state committee, P Jayarajan pointed to financial irregularities in connection with the resort and its links to his colleague’s family. Sources said that state secretary MV Govindan has asked P Jayarajan to give the allegation in writing and an internal investigation by the party will be conducted against EP Jayarajan.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was present at the meeting but did not respond to the allegations.

“One cannot sideline the matter as an internal party feud. It is a very serious matter. The allegation is that EP Jayarajan has amassed huge proportions of wealth through illegal means while he was holding the portfolio of industry and commerce in the then LDF cabinet,” K Muralidharan, senior Congress leader, said.

“The issue is even more serious since the allegation is that he bought shares to build the resort while he was the minister and hence it became an issue of the government. The allegations have been made by a senior CPM leader who still hasn’t gone back on his stand. He said it’s the party stance that the matter should not be dragged to the media. This cannot be brushed aside as a correction within the party. We demand a judicial investigation into the matter,” Muralidharan said.
