SHRADDHA WALKAR MURDER CASE

Aaftab Poonawala allegedly strangled his live-in partner Shraddha and cut her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a fridge at his residence in Mehrauli in south Delhi in May last year, before dumping them across the city over several days.

Bones recovered from the forests of Chhatarpur and the DNA report which confirmed that the bones belonged to Shraddha Walkar will form part of the charge sheet. Two DNA reports had confirmed that bones retrieved from forests in South Delhi belong to Walkar.

Apart from this, the confession of Aftab Poonawala and the report of the narco test are also included, although both these reports may not hold much importance in court. From a prosecution standpoint, Poonawala’s confession to police would not have been enough for a conviction.

The gory details about Walkar’s murder shook the entire nation after the Delhi Police arrested Aaftab on November 12 last year. The autopsy report of the bones of Shraddha Walkar revealed that her body was chopped into 35 pieces with a saw-like object.

The key breakthrough came when 13 decomposed body parts, mostly pieces of bones, were retrieved from the forests of south Delhi. Aaftab in his confession, told police that the couple had been at odds since moving to Delhi and he killed her after an argument.

Delhi Police have also recovered a saw, several knives and many other tools from the flat where Walkar was killed last year.

The murder came to fore when a friend informed Walkar’s father, Vikas Madan Walkar, that he had not heard from her for at least two months. Aaftab also used Shraddha’s social media accounts for months to give an impression that she was alive.
