As per official data, so far about 47 lakh saplings have been planted or distributed by the departments as a part of tree plantation drive.
By Pankaj Jain: Delhi’s green area, which was 20% in 2013, has expanded to 23.6% in 2021, according to official data. The Delhi government had set a goal of planting or distributing roughly 43 lakh saplings this year under the Tree Plantation Campaign, and so far, 47 lakh saplings have been planted or distributed in this direction.
As per official data, so far about 47 lakh saplings have been planted or distributed by the departments as a part of the tree plantation drive. Out of which, 10,80,000 by the forest department, 5,47,000 by the DDA, 5,23,000 by the MCD, 2,73,000 by the education department, 42,000 by the DSIIDC, 13,000 by the DUSIB, 3,86,000 by the PWD, 30,000 by the CPWD, 7,57,000 by the NDMC, 1,03,000 by the Delhi Jal Board, 26,000 by the Northern Railway, 16,000 by the Delhi Cantonment Board, 12,000 by NDPL and 30,000 by BSES and other departments were planted, and around 8,00,000 saplings were distributed by different departments.

Now, the Delhi Environment Minister has ordered the officers of the Forest Department to get the details of tree plantation from the departments, as to where the saplings have been planted. In order to determine the success rate of the saplings planted in Delhi as part of the tree-planting programme, the concerned departments have also been directed to conduct a third-party audit.
A meeting was called at the Delhi Secretariat on February 21 with the senior officials of all concerned departments and agencies regarding the special campaign for tree plantation.
