By Nagarjun Dwarakanath: Janata Dal (Secular) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Sunday called both his sons, HD Kumaraswamy and HD Revanna to his house to negotiate the party ticket for the Hassan Assembly constituency in the upcoming polls.

JD(S) supremo entered the fray to resolve a messy feud between the brothers over Hassan ticket.

According to sources, Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, is in favour of giving the ticket to Swaroop Gowda, a JDS karyakarta. However, Revanna, a senior JDS leader, is firm on giving the ticket to his wife Bhavani Revanna.

Devegowda expressed his concern that giving another family member a ticket at this juncture would send a wrong message to the people and negatively impact the party’s prospects. But Revanna and his wife remained unyielding and even threatened to field Bhavani as an independent candidate if the ticket was not given to her.

The Hassan district has always been a stronghold for the Gowda family and the decision regarding ticket distribution is critical. The party is yet to take a decision on the matter, and the second list of candidates is set to be released later today.

Meanwhile, upbeat about the JD(S) prospects in the May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka, Deve Gowda who has withdrawn from active campaigning due to age- related ailments, had said it will set the tone for other state elections this year and the Parliamentary elections in 2024.
