By Pramod Madhav: The Teynampet E-3 Police arrested a domestic help and a driver for stealing jewellery and other valuables from Rajinikanth’s elder daughter Aishwaryaa’s residence in Chennai’s Poes Garden area.
Police arrested domestic help Eswari and driver Venkatesan and recovered nearly 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 30 gram diamond jewellery, 4kg of silver and a property document.
Police said Eswari worked in Aishwarya Rajikanth’s residence for the last 18 years and had stolen jewellery from the locker kept in the Poes Garden residence with the help of Venkatesan. Police said they even bought a house in Chennai using the stolen valuables.
In February, Aishwaryaa Rajikanth had filed a complaint with the Teynampet police stating that she had kept the missing jewellery, which she wore for her sister Soundarya’s wedding in 2019, in a locker at her Poes Garden residence while the keys of the locker were at her flat on St Mary’s Road.
When she opened the locker on February 10 this year, she found that some of the jewellery that she had accumulated in the 18 years since her marriage was missing. Diamond sets, antique gold pieces, Navaratnam sets, bangles and nearly 60 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 3.60 lakh were stolen.
In her complaint, Aishwaryaa had written she was suspicious of her maids Eashwari and Lakshmi and her driver Venkat, who frequently visited her apartment in St Mary’s Road even when she was away. Police registered a case based on her complaint and arrested Eashwari and Venkta.
