Amritpal and his aide Papalpreet had taken shelter at Baljit Kaur’s residence on March 19 and 20.

By Arvind Ojha: Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is still on the run even as the massive manhunt by the Punjab Police to nab him entered the seventh day on Friday. In the ongoing operation, Haryana Police on Thursday arrested a woman, identified as Baljit Kaur, for harbouring Amritpal Singh and his mentor Papalpreet Singh at her home in Kurukshetra district.

The 28-year-old woman, who was allegedly in touch with Papalpreet Singh, was later handed over to Punjab Police.

A day after her arrest, Baljit Kaur spoke to India Today and said that initially she did not know that he was a Khalistani leader when he came to her house. “He suddenly came to my house on March 19 night. I did not know who he was,” Kaur, who saw Amritpal Singh for the last time, said.

“I knew Papalpreet Singh through Instagram. He brought Amritpal Singh along with him. The two arrived late at night and left early in the morning. I got to know that the other person was Amritpal Singh when he was having dinner,” Baljit Kaur said.

She also said that Amritpal Singh used her phone to search for something. “He (Amritpal Singh) was wearing a turban, glasses and a mask, so it was difficult to identify him,” Baljit Kaur said.

“They did not inform us where they were heading to. Amritpal Singh gave me a scooty and asked me to drop it at a location in Patiala,” the woman said.

Both Amritpal and Papalpreet had taken shelter at Baljit Kaur’s residence on March 19 and 20 before fleeing from there after changing their looks. Amritpal told the woman that “someone would be collecting the bag” left behind by them. However, this couldn’t happen as Haryana Police raided her house.

Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh has been on the run despite the massive manhunt launched to nab him since March 18. Police have also invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against the Waris Punjab De chief and a non-bailable warrant has been issued against him.
