By Arvind Ojha: Guddu Muslim, an accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s henchman has been absconding from the police for 62 days. India Today has learnt that he is escaping the police by changing his appearance and using fake identities to stay in different places.
He used different Hindu names, like Bablu, Surendra Kumar and Sandeep Kumar to throw off the police tailing him.

Police had found out that Guddu’s last location was in Bargarh, Odisha. He was present in Odisha from April 2 to 13 and was hiding in the state for almost 12 days. He fled, leaving behind a bag containing his clothes.
There, police also detained Raja Khan, an aide of Guddu Muslim, who revealed that he had grown a beard to avoid detection and being captured by the police. He has now fled to Chhattisgarh after travelling to places like Meerut, Ajmer, Jhansi, Nashik and Pune.

Guddu Muslim’s plan to kill Umesh Pal
Those who know Guddu Muslim claimed that Atiq had no reason to kill Umesh Pal and it was Guddu who led the murder. Sources said that while Atiq and his brother Ashraf were in jail, their entire business was in the hands of Guddu Muslim and during this time he had secretly invested money in many businesses, including coal supply.
Umesh Pal was shot on February 24 in Prayagraj. Police had registered a case against nine people, including Atiq, Ashraf, Shaista, Asad on the complaint of Umesh’s wife. Seven shooters were involved in this murder. Of these, Arbaaz, Vijay Chowdhary, Ghulam and Asad were killed in encounters while Atiq and Ashraf were shot dead by assailants. Guddu Muslim and shooters Sabir and Armaan are absconding. There is a bounty of Rs 5 lakhs on Guddu’s head.
Former IPS Rajesh Pandey, a member of the UP STF team who interrogated Guddu Muslim, said that after killing Umesh, he used his syndicate and not Atiq Ahmed’s aides, to escape. Guddu Muslim has his own big syndicate. All the mafias of Uttar Pradesh and outside the state have been in direct contact with him. This is how Guddu Muslim managed to escape the police for longer than two months.
