We have put together a list of some of the most highly-anticipated upcoming CNG cars in India, take a look –
Tata Altroz CNG
The bookings for the Tata Altroz CNG opened recently, with a launch expected to take place in the coming days. The car was first displayed at the 2023 Auto Expo in January this year, revealing its unique equipment list that includes an electric sunroof, direct start in CNG mode, cruise control, as well as the twin-cylinder technology instead of a single larger cylinder, which will open up more space inside the boot. The Altroz CNG variants will likely be available at a premium of about Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol variants.
Tata Punch CNG
Another Tata Motors car that will soon join its iCNG list is the Punch. The Tata Punch CNG was also showcased alongside the Altroz CNG, and will make use of the same twin-cylinder technology as the latter. The Tata Punch will likely go on to become the most affordable CNG SUV in the Indian market upon arrival in the coming months. The equipment list of the Punch CNG isn’t expected to change too much, while the engine will also continue to be the same 1.2-litre Revotron NA petrol unit.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG
Maruti Suzuki Fronx First Drive Review: Does the Tata Punch rival pack a punch? | TOI Auto
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is set to go on sale in the Indian market soon, and Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce a CNG version of the crossover SUV in the coming months. The factory-fit CNG kit will only be offered with the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, and will likely be about Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the petrol counterpart. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx will be retailed through the company’s Nexa chain of premium dealerships.
Kia Sonet CNG
While Kia hasn’t yet confirmed any news regarding a possible introduction of the CNG version of the Sonet sub-4m SUV, test mules of the particular car have been spied on test a couple of times, hinting at a launch in the coming months. The latest test mule, the top-end X-Line variant, was even spotted wearing the ‘On test by ARAI’ sticker on the rear windshield. This also hints at the fact that the Kia Sonet could go on to become the first car in India to be offered with a CNG kit with a turbo-petrol engine.
Tata Nexon CNG
Another sub-compact SUV that is expected to soon go the CNG route is the Tata Nexon. Currently one of the best-selling cars in the segment, the Nexon is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, and a new CNG option will only further increase its popularity. The CNG kit will only likely be offered with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and would command about a Rs 1 lakh premium over the regular petrol variants. A launch is expected by the end of this year.
