Intense Cold Wave To Continue, Temperature Likely To Drop Further In Several States. Key Points

In view of extreme cold conditions in Bihar, the Patna administration has order for schools to remain closed. In a circular issued by the District Magistrate on Sunday, all schools will remain closed for students up to class 8 from January 2 to January 7, reported news agency ANI

Meanwhile, the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has predicted severe cold wave conditions in northern parts of India for the next three days. 

Due to north-westerly winds from the Himalayas over plains of northwest India, the night temperatures are very likely to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius below normal over northwest and adjoining central India during the next two days, according to IMD forecast, reported PTI.

  • Under the influence of the north-westerly winds cold wave to severe cold wave conditions is also likely over the northern parts till Tuesday
  • Minimum temperatures are very likely to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius over northwest and adjoining central India
  • This December, there were seven western disturbances, of which six were feeble over India and only one (December 28 – 30) was strong
  • The weather office has forecast 86 per cent below normal rainfall of the long period average (LPA) over northwest India between January and March
