It so happened that Kareena was cast in the film before Priyanka. Now, the makers of ‘Aitraaz’ (producer Subhash Ghai and directors Abbas-Mustan) offered her both roles. They told her that there were two female roles and one male role in the story and she could pick any of the female roles.
Now comes the shocking twist. Kareena told them pointblank that she wanted to be cast as the female who is opposite the male lead. The makers had no hesitation in giving her what she wanted on a silver platter.
This, in turn, left the other role- which was the more powerful role- vacant. And in stepped Priyanka, but much, much later.
We all know how much praise did Priyanka Chopra get from not just the critics but the masses as well. Didn’t Kareena make a big blunder?
A source from the industry says, “Of course, it was a big blunder on Kareena’s part to have accepted the role of the hero’s wife and not bothered to consider the role of hero’s boss’ wife (the boss was played by Amrish Puri).”
But woh kehte hain na- daane daane pe likha hota hai khaane wale ka naam!
For the unversed, Kareena and Priyanka hit it off well during the making of ‘Aitraaz’. But post that, they were not at all fond of each other. Buzz was, they nearly came to blows at a concert after ‘Aitraaz’ in Antwerp. And, while shooting for a soft drink commercial, the makers were advised to give them equal space. It was also said that Kareena was not very happy doing the song number ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ in ‘Don’ wherein Priyanka played the lead, but she did it for her good relations with Farhan Akhtar and Shah Rukh Khan. That they are believed to have buried the hatchet is known, but Bollywood mein kuch pucca bol sakte hain kya?
