By Anagha Kesav: Karnataka chief minister Basvaraj Bommai, after consulting with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command in Delhi on the issue of reservations, said that the top brass had told him to give justice to everyone who needed it. The CM added that they had further instructed him to stick to the party’s principles while giving justice to those who need it.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai met BJP president JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday in Delhi and discussed various issues related to the reservation and cabinet expansion in the state.
Post the meeting, Bommai said several issues related to the reservation in the state were discussed along with expanding the cabinet.
Speaking to the media after meeting with the BJP high command, Bommai said, “With regards to reservations, the top brass told me to give justice to everyone who needs it. While giving justice, ensure you stick to the party principles.”
“I have briefed them about the issue. They asked me to discuss it with all stakeholders. The high command will also discuss this with stakeholders. All efforts were being made to understand the situation. I will discuss this at the assembly house as well,” added CM Bommai.
Meanwhile, CM Bommai needs to ensure legal protection regarding his government’s decision to hike the SC/ST quota by bringing it under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. The total reservations in Karnataka stand at 56 per cent, exceeding the 50 per cent cap.
Also, Panchamasali Lingayats keep pressuring Bommai to put them under Category 2A from Category 3B of the OBC reservation matrix. This comes along with pressure to implement internal quotas for SC/STs.
