By India Today Web Desk: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has appointed Vishwanath Pal as the state chief of the party, ahead of the crucial municipal elections and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Pal belongs to the Most Backward Caste (MBC) and is an old guard of the party, which has been struggling to make a resurgence in Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape.
The appointment coincided with Pal’s birthday, who turned 49.
It is after 24 years that the BSP has reportedly appointed a Pal community leader as the state chief of the party.

Keeping in mind the political climate of the state, Mayawati replaced former state chief Bhim Rajbhar and made Pal the state chief.
The party supremo congratulated Pal on Twitter and described him as a “loyal worker” of the party and reposed faith in him.
Vishwanath Pal was born on December 20, 1973 in a poor farmer’s family in Anantapur village of Ayodhya district. He pursued LLB from Faizabad University. His father’s name is Parmeshwar Deen Pal, while her mother is Kalpa Devi Pal. He is the youngest among his five siblings.
PAL’S POLITICAL JOURNEY
Vishwanath Pal entered politics in the 1990s after being influenced by the ideology of BSP founder Kanshi Ram and Mayawati’s political acumen. He held various posts in the party.
In 1996, he was given the responsibility of the Bhaichara Committee of BSP after holding the post of Party Sector President, President of Vikas Nagar, District Vice President of Ayodhya, Treasurer, and Secretary of Ayodhya Mandal.
He worked as a coordinator of the BSP Bhaichara in the Faizabad and Devipatan divisions. During this period, he tried to bring Pal Samaj closer to the BSP.
In 2007, when BSP came to power with a huge majority, Pal played a crucial role in its victory in Ayodhya. Pal has also worked for BSP in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. Currently, he was working as the Zonal Coordinator of BSP in Ayodhya division. He is considered very close to Mayawati. Pal will be instrumental in uniting the MBCs and boosting the party’s prospects, it is believed.

WILL PAL SAMAJ RETURN TO BSP?
Out of all the MBCs, Pal Samaj is the most backward caste in Uttar Pradesh. The Pal community holds the largest vote bank in Brij and Rohilkhand districts. The MBCs have drifted away from BSP and have joined BJP.
By appointing Pal as the state chief of the party, Mayawati wants to win back the trust of the Pal community, which could translate into more votes for the BSP in the upcoming polls.
