Meet Ajit Kukreja, the face behind first state-funded BPO in Chhattisgarh

By Sumi Rajappan: As Chhattisgarh is staring at the assembly elections, both the parties, BJP and Congress, are busy chalking out their strategies. Congress has made it amply clear that only good performances would be taken into consideration while offering tickets.

Also, this time younger faces are likely to be given tickets as compared to the assembly elections held in 2018. His Twitter Bio says he is the chairman of the Department of Electricity and Firebrigade.

Speaking of a few young faces that the party has, Ajit Kukreja’s name stands out in Raipur North as he enjoys immense popularity among Sindhis. Kukreja, who holds the record of being the youngest councillor in the state from 2014 to 2021, is a second-time councillor.

He is the face behind the first state govt funded BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) which is yet to open in Raipur. It will have a seating arrangement of 500 people and is being seen as an essential step towards attracting several global IT companies to Chhattisgarh.

FACE BEHIND STATE-FUNDED BPO

Kukreja, 36, in an interview with India Today, said, “In the past 23 years, the BJP government failed to establish the basic infrastructure that was needed to open a business park. The young population migrated to metro cities for jobs and I wanted to change that altogether.”

“We would offer efficient services at cheaper tariffs so that global companies will be compelled to prefer BPO. This BPO is completely government-funded. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel allocated Rs 10 crore for the same. The budget has been sanctioned and it will be up and running in the next 6-7 months. This BPO will attract great investments for the state,” he added.

Kukreja, who inched close to fetching a ticket in 2018, is leaving no stone unturned this time. As per the Congress’s internal survey that was conducted recently, the performance of the existing MLA from Raipur North, Kuldeep Singh Juneja, who had won by more than 16k votes in 2018, has been found unsatisfactory. And that leaves a lot of room of scope for the young Kukreja.

“I’ve been working tirelessly and I do my job because I love serving the masses. The final decision rests with the high command,” he said.
