Minor arrested with 15 kg heroin, Rs 8.4 lakh cash in Punjab’s Amritsar

Punjab Police arrested a 17-year-old boy and recovered 15 kg heroin and 8.40 lakh cash from his possession in Amristar on Thursday. Another accused in the matter is absconding.

By Lalit Sharma: Punjab Police on Thursday arrested a 17-year-old boy with 15 packets of heroin, weighing 15 kg and Rs 8.40 lakh, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the boy, along with his accomplice, identified as Resham Singh, a resident of Amritsar, was going to deliver the drug consignment after retrieving it from Kakkar village.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment of drugs was airdropped by Pakistan-based smugglers using a drone”, he said. The police have also seized the accused minor’s bike. The teen is a resident of Amritsar.

Resham Singh, considered the prima-facie mastermind of the trans-border narcotics smuggling racket, managed to flee from the spot.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Amarjit Singh Bajwa said that the father and grandfather of the boy are already undergoing imprisonment under the NDPS Act. Cops have registered cases against the accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The development came ten days after Punjab Police busted a trans-border drug smuggling cartel and arrested a drug smuggler. The cops had recovered five packets of heroin, weighing 5 kg, and Rs 12.15 lakh during the crackdown.
