Former Corporator from Ward 24, Mumbai, Yogesh Bhoir
By Divyesh Singh: The crime branch of Mumbai Police launched a manhunt on Saturday to look for Yogesh Bhoir, a former corporator from Ward 24, Mumbai, in connection with an extortion case. His name came up in the case after the primary accused, a self-proclaimed RTI activist who tried to extort Rs 1 crore from a Mumbai-based developer, was arrested last week.
WHAT IS THE CASE?
A complaint was filed by Harshal More, a staff member at the company, who said the primary accused, Bhimsen Yadav, had been filing false complaints against the developer and had been trying to derail the construction work they were carrying out at Kandivali.

Fed up of being harassed by Yadav , the company officials called Yadav for a meeting where he initially demanded Rs 2 crore and then settled for Rs 1 crore as extortion amount to leave them alone and let the construction work continue. Yadav also said that he would have to share the amount with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials and politicians.
More took a recording of the conversation to file the complaint against Yadav. He also added that Yadav said he has connections with the underworld elements based in Karachi and gave a veiled threat to the company to pay the extortion amount so they could continue the construction work.

The police then laid a trap for Yadav when he came to collect the first instalment of the amount at the office in Kandivali and arrested him. He was charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
During the questioning, Bhimsen Yadav told the police about Yogesh Bhoir’s involvement in the case. Bhoir allegedly accompanied Yadav when he went to demand the extortion amount from the company.
Bhoir is currently absconding from the police and authorities are on the lookout to nab him. The former corporator has been named in the chargesheet.
Officials said that the role of some local politicians and those working with Yadav is also being probed and more arrests could be made in connection with the case.
