PATNA: I do not comment on court matters, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said Wednesday in response to a question on Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as MP.
He, however, added that his party, JD(U), has commented on the matter. The party also joined Congress‘ protests. He said it was his earnest desire that “maximum number of opposition parties” unite against BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, adding that he was waiting for Congress’ response.
Nitish silence on Rahul row sparks buzz
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar refused on Wednesday to comment on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha. “I do not comment on court matters,” he said, but added that his party, JD(U), had commented on the issue.
“I do not comment even if a case is registered against any person. Even if someone registers a case against me, I do not comment. It is my habit. I have been running the government here for the last 17 years but have never interfered in the investigation of any criminal case,” he said.
Nitish’s silence on events surrounding Rahul Gandhi had triggered speculation.
However, responding to media queries after garlanding the statue of Mauryan emperor Ashoka on his birth anniversary, Nitish said it was his earnest desire that opposition parties unite (against BJP) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Asked whether Congress is delaying the unity issue, Nitish said, “I have spoken to all prominent (Congress) leaders and asked them to decide how to proceed with other parties. Many regional parties have expressed their desire for unity.”
Asked for his reaction to PM Modi’s statement that “all the corrupt have joined hands to stop the anti-corruption crusade”, Nitish said, “It is his habit to speak such things. What should I say? But he should keep a record of the type of people to whom he gives posts.”
