By India Today Web Desk: BJP spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, accusing the Gandhi scion of smiling while paying condolences after meeting the family of deceased RJD leader, Sharad Yadav.
“Rahul Gandhi smiling while Sharad Yadav’s family is in tears – certainly not how a Tapasvi would behave, Shehzad wrote in a tweet, further adding he said, “Sensitivity demands one acts maturely, but then in 2018 Rahul was laughing during Dharam Singh’s condolence meet; was busy in the phone during Pulwama Shraddhanjali (homage to soldiers).”
Rahul Gandhi remembered Sharad Yadav in his tribute and said he learned a lot from Yadav.
“Sharad Yadav ji was a person of humble nature along with being the leader of socialism. I learned a lot from him,” he said.
“I express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family members. His contribution to the country will always be remembered,” he added.
Congress MP, who is leading Bharat Jodo Yatra in Punjab, met Sharad Yadav’s family at their Delhi residence earlier today.
Former Union minister and RJD leader Sharad Yadav died on Thursday, January 12, at the age of 75. His daughter, Subhashini Sharad Yadav, confirmed the news on Twitter saying, “Papa nahi rahe (Father is no more).”
Sharad Yadav, during the twilight of his political career, ended up joining Lalu’s RJD in 2022 by merging his party, Loktantrik Janata Dal, which he had formed after parting ways with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s JDU in 2017.
Yadav was not convinced by Nitish’s decision to form a government by allying with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state in 2017.
