ODI Recap, 1986 to now: India’s 5 lowest completed innings totals at home | Cricket News – Times of

NEW DELHI: No one expected Team India to capitulate the way they did in Visakhapatnam on Sunday against the Aussies. The Indian innings lasted just 26 overs, while Australia completed their run chase in a mere 11 overs.
Not surprisingly, there were multiple unwanted records for Team India after the second ODI, which has now given the visiting Aussies a very good chance of winning the series 2-1.
TimesofIndia.com here takes a look at one such record here – India’s lowest completed innings totals on Indian soil.
In the history of ODIs played in India, there have been only three scores that have been lower than the 117 India put up on the board on Sunday vs Australia.

1986: 78 All Out vs Sri Lanka
The all-time record is 78. India were bowled out for 78 by Sri Lanka in an ODI in Kanpur in December 1986 in just 24.1 overs. India were batting second in this match and were chasing a target of 196, after the Lankans put up 195/8. Arjuna Ranatunga was Man of the match for scoring 31 runs and taking 4 wickets. Sri Lanka won the match by 117 runs.
1993: 100 All Out vs West Indies
The second lowest completed innings score by India in a home ODI is 100. That is how much they made against the West Indies in an ODI in Ahmedabad in November 1993. India were batting second again here and were chasing a target of 203. Then India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was the top scorer with just 23. Winston Benjamin scored 14* and took 3 wickets to walk away with the Man of the Match award, as the Windies won the encounter by 69 runs, after the target was revised to 170.
2017: 112 All Out vs Sri Lanka

The third lowest score on this list for Team India is 112. It was the Lankans once again who tormented India on the 10th of December in 2017. India were batting first this time and were shot out in 38.2 overs for 112. Right arm fast medium bowler Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with 4/13. As many as four Indian batters fell for a duck and the only one who stood tall with the bat was then skipper MS Dhoni who made 65. The next best score after this was 19 by Kuldeep Yadav.
2023: 117 All Out vs Australia

The 117 vs Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday is fourth on this list.
1987: 135 All Out vs West Indies
In fifth place is a total of 135 that Team India managed against the West Indies in an ODI in Guwahati in 1987. In this match India were chasing again. The Windies, propelled by Sir Viv Richards’s 41 off 52 balls posted 187/7. Ravi Shastri took 3 wickets in that match and Mohinder Amarnath took 2, as the Windies were not allowed to run riot. But India capitulated with the bat and were bowled out for 135 in 41.3 overs. The top scorer was Amarnath, with 33. Courtney Walsh took 4/16 in that game as the Windies handed the hosts a 52 run defeat.
1999: 135 All Out vs Pakistan
In joint fifth place on this list is India’s 135 all out vs Pakistan in an ODI in Jaipur in 1999. India were chasing a stiff target of 279. Pakistan, batting first, had scored 278/9, thanks largely to Saeed Anwar’s 95 off 117 balls. Anil Kumble was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 4 wickets in the game. Ajay Jadeja, opening the batting with Sourav Ganguly, scored 61. But no other batter crossed the 25 run mark and India were shot out for 135 in 36.1 overs. Off-spinner Arshad Khan took 3 wickets for the men in green, while Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi took 2 wickets each. Captain Wasim Akram bowled 6 overs and gave away 33 runs, but couldn’t take a wicket. Pakistan though wrapped up a huge 143 run win.
