Over Rs 55 lakh go missing from private bank in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga, one cashier arrested

An amount of Rs 57.5 lakh was found missing from the vault of a private bank in the Gudri Bazar area of Lohardaga district in Jharkhand.

Following the incident, the branch of the private bank in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district is getting very few customers.

By Satyajeet Kumar: An amount of Rs 57.5 lakh was found missing from the vault of a private bank in the Gudri Bazar area of Lohardaga district in Jharkhand. While one cashier has been arrested, police are on the lookout for another official of the bank who is on the run.

A total of Rs 2,49,72,420 was counted and kept in the bank’s vault after the working hours on December 9. When the internal audit department of the bank inspected the branch on December 12, they found only Rs 1,92,16, 801 in the vault.

Branch manager of the bank, Shwetabh Ranjan, said Rs 57.5 lakh was embezzled from the bank’s vault.

Ranjan lodged a complaint against cashiers Dheeraj Bharti and Subojit Dey at Sadar police station. Lohardaga SDPO Vashishtha Narayan Singh said, based on the written complaint of the bank manager, they have registered an FIR against the cashiers.

Police arrested principal cashier Dheeraj Bharti on Saturday and is questioning him. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest assistant cashier Subhojit Dey, who is on the run. Following the incident, very few customers visited the bank.
