PM scared of Kejriwal’s popularity: AAP’s response to BJP’s allegations on Delhi CM’s residence

By Amit Bhardwaj: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday responded to the BJP’s allegations that around Rs 45 crore was spent on the “beautification” of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence and said the saffron party made the claims because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “scared of the increasing popularity of the Delhi CM”.

“That’s why Modiji has unleashed all agencies against Kejriwal ji,” the party said in a statement, saying that the Centre has not been able to show irregularity of a single penny so far.

Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence is located in Delhi’s Civil Lines at 6, Flagstaff Road. This has never been the official residence of Delhi chief ministers in the past as there is no designated CM residence as of now in the city.

The AAP said the BJP has “failed in all its attempts to malign the image” of Delhi CM Kejriwal over the past nine years and is now “targeting the CM’s residence”.

“This is the first time an official CM residence complex was created in Delhi comprising the CM residence, office secretariat, auditorium, staff quarters etc. The BJP should focus its energies on investigating the Adani scam”, it added.

The BJP had demanded Kejriwal’s resignation on “moral” grounds over the allegations.

The AAP had defended the expenditure with party MP Sanjay Singh saying the renovations of the Delhi CM’s residence were recommended by the Public Works Department (PWD) after an audit.
