By Mausami Singh, Shibimol KG: The Congress is all set for a show of strength in Wayanad on Tuesday with a roadshow by Rahul Gandhi. This is going to be Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to his erstwhile constituency after being disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.

His sister Priyanka Gandhi is going to accompany him for his Wayanad event.

Congress members have made extensive preparations to welcome Rahul Gandhi to Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi will hold a “Satyameva Jayate” roadshow in Wayanad’s Kalpetta on Tuesday at 3 pm. The roadshow will start from SK MJ High School and end at MP office. A public conference will be held outside the MP office around 5 pm.

It is being reported that a letter written by Rahul Gandhi will also be distributed to the voters across Wayanad constituency.

Leaders of Congress allies, including IUML and RSP, will also be present at the roadshow.

During Rahul Gandhi’s 2019 election campaign, there was controversy over the IUML’s green flag. That’s why only the Tricolour will be displayed at the roadshow.

Through this roadshow, the Congress wants to convey the message that Rahul Gandhi is being targeted because he spoke out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is why he had been disqualified as an MP.

The IUML is in alliance with the Congress in Kerala, and its president, Shihab Thangal, will also be present in the roadshow. In addition, several stalwarts of the Congress, including KC Venugopal and Tarik Anwar, will be present in the roadshow. Congress’s ally, RSP’s NK Premachandran, will also be present in the roadshow.

The Election Commission, while announcing the dates of Karnataka assembly election, had said it would wait for the court’s decision to hold a by-poll in Wayanad, because Rahul Gandhi had been given a 30-day notice.

RAHUL GANDHI’S DISQUALIFICATION

On March 24, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a member of Lok Sabha, a day after he was sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “why all thieves have Modi surname” remark.

In its order for Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, the Lok Sabha stated the Congress leader stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction, i.e. March 23, 2023.

Further, the notice stated the order was in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
