By Vinay Pandey: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, the two Hindu outfits, burnt the effigies in protest of those who spoke against the Ramcharitmanas in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur on Monday.
Referring to the burning effigies, VHP’s district General Secretary said, “Anyone opposing the Sanatan Dharma would face the same fate.”
The development unfolded following the remark by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya where he said the epic was ‘all nonsense’.
The SP leader had said there exist several crores of people who have not or do not read Ramcharitmanas. He said it was the British era that gave Dalits the right to read and write and that women got their right to be literate under the British Raj.
The Hindu outfit also extended its support to chief of Bageshwar Dham, which came into controversy for allegedly promoting superstition under the garb of religion.
“VHP and Bajrang Dal will teach lessons to those opposing Bhageshwar Dham and Ramcharitmanas, attacking SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya the VHP said, “he bites the hand that feeds him”.
Earlier, Bihar Education Minister and RJD leader Chandra Shekhar had courted controversy after he said Ramcharitmanas ‘spreads hatred in society’.
