By Pramod Madhav: A ruckus broke out during a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam meeting in Chennai on Sunday after policemen attempted to detain two DMK functionaries for allegedly molesting a woman police constable. As the policemen were detaining the accused, party cadres surrounded them and created a scene.
The DMK event occurred near the Dasarathapuram bus stand in Chennai’s Saligramam area on Sunday. MP Kanimozhi also participated in the event and provided welfare materials for the public.
As the meeting came to an end, a woman police officer was seen crying after two miscreants, Praveen and Egambaram, allegedly misbehaved with her. Police surrounded the miscreants when they tried to flee, but an inspector nabbed both men.
However, as police tried to detain and take them to the police station, DMK cadres surrounded them, creating a ruckus. The men were let go since no complaint was registered.
Reacting to the incident, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Annamalai said that it was a disgrace.
“Two DMK Youth Wing functionaries molested a Police Constable on protection duty in a public meeting in which MP Kanimozhi participated. What’s more disgusting is that DMK men hanged up and stopped Police from arresting those two individuals,” tweeted Annamalai and claimed that CM Stalin continues to be a silent spectator.
