By Manjeet Sehgal: The farmers’ unions under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will be on the roads once again. The unions, at a Kisan Panchayat held in Kurukshetra on Thursday and attended by farmer leaders from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, announced a Kisan Maha Panchayat in Delhi on March 20.
The farmers will also stage a protest at Jantar Mantar the same day.
The SKM said that the Centre had failed to fulfill the promises made to them. The Maha Panchayat will remind the Centre of the promises it made to the farmers.

The farmers’ union will also chalk out a strategy to counter the BJP-led union government during the Lok Sabha elections.
Dr Sunil, a farmer leader, told the media in Kurukshetra that the SKM will also draft a constitution, besides constituting a 31-member committee to address the farmers’ issues.

The biggest demand the unions have made is to seek a legal framework for the minimum support price regime in addition to the farmers’ debts being written off and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report.
Protests have been planned by the SKM in Punjab on March 13 at the district level. The Bhartiya Kisan Manch leaders have alleged that the Centre was misusing central agencies against the farmer leaders and raiding them.
