By Shibimol KG: In an inspiring move, school students in Kerala’s Alappuzha district have come forward to help eradicate poverty in the district. Under the initiative, ‘Children for Alleppey’, a batch of school students will take care of one family and donate items, including food. The initiative was launched on February 6.
According to the survey conducted by the government, there are 3,613 extremely poor families in the district. The aim of the project is to bring people who are disadvantaged in many ways to a better living condition.

The first Monday of every month will be observed as ‘community service day’ in schools. Students can bring any essential item other than cash and deposit them in a box in schools. The architect of the initiative, District collector, V R Krishna Teja feels this will teach the students the important lesson of sharing and community service.
Krishna Teja wrote on his Facebook that the children of Alappuzha are surprising him with their deeds and they are setting an example. ” There is no doubt that our district will be free from extreme poverty in a very short period of time through various projects carried out by various departments and local bodies in addition to this scheme for children,” he wrote.
Teja also added that such an act cannot be carried out in any other place except in Kerala. “It is only here in Kerala that you will find so many socially responsible children, parents and teachers. My best wishes to all of you dearest to me,” he added.
