By India Today News Desk: An elderly couple in Haryana died by suicide by consuming poison on the night of March 29, leaving behind a suicide note accusing family members of atrocities. The couple said their son owns property worth Rs 30 crore but refused to feed them.

Jagdish Chandra Arya (78) and Bhagli Devi (77), the grandparents of IAS officer Vivek Arya, were found dead in their home in Shiv Colony of Badhda in Charkhi Dadri.

The police were informed by the elderly couple themselves, who had called the control room before consuming poison.

In a suicide note, Jagdish Chandra Arya wrote that his son, who owns property worth Rs 30 crores, refused to provide them even with two meals a day.

In the suicide note, Arya said the couple used to live with their other son, Mahender, in Badhra, but when he died six years ago, they started living with their daughter-in-law, Neelam. She later threw them out, forcing them to stay in an old-age home for two years, Arya alleged.

When the couple eventually returned to stay with their son, who they said owns property worth Rs 30 crores, the elderly couple was given stale food. Fed up with the treatment metted out by his own family, Jagdish Chandra Arya and Bhagli Devi decided to end their lives.

Arya stated in the suicide note that he had left a property in his name and it should be given to Arya Samaj in Badhra and family members responsible for the atrocities should be punished.

Virender, the son of the deceased couple, claimed that his parents were troubled due to illness and that was why they took the extreme step. However, Police have registered a case and are probing all those named in the suicide note.
