The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 28 Tamil Nadu fishermen for allegedly crossing into the Worldwide maritime border. Two separate incidents of arrests happened inside 24 hours on Thursday, March 24.

As many as 16 Tamil Nadu fishermen left from Mandapam city on the morning of March 24 in 4 boats and have been fishing close to Neduntheevu, an island within the Palk Strait.

The fishermen have been surrounded by the Sri Lankan Navy and have been arrested. The Navy additionally seized their boats, claiming that they’d crossed the Worldwide maritime border.

The arrested fishermen have been taken to Mayilatti Port and the boats have been transported to Karainagar Navy camp.

One other 12 fishermen, who had left Rameswaram, have been arrested on March 23 by the Sri Lankan Navy. Their boats have been additionally seized. The incident happened close to Iranaitheevu. The Sri Lankan Navy claimed that the Indian fishermen had crossed the border and have been fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
