Things that take time emotionally: Therapist explains

Our emotions can get difficult sometimes. While most of us think that we have it all together, we often come across situations when we know that we cannot rush through the emotional upheaval that we feel. In such situations, it is best to slow down, and let time unravel the speed that our emotions can take to get better and eventually, make ourselves feel better. Addressing this, Psychotherapist Emily H Sanders wrote, “Despite our best efforts, some things can’t be rushed. We can remain open and teachable so as not to get in the way of our healing- but like it or not, many significant things take time, in addition to reflection and effort.” She further noted down six things that take time, even though we wish that they wouldn’t have.

Healing from trauma: No matter how much we try and put efforts to heal faster from the trauma that we have been exposed to, it takes its own time and pace. Eventually, in the right time and situation, we feel better and our body and mind heals from the trauma.

Learning to trust: often we make mistakes or poor choices that affect the confidence and trust that we have on ourselves. While we deal with the repercussions of the same, learning to let go and put faith in our own decisions again can take time.

Breaking familial cycles: When we are seasoned into dysfunctional cycles, and are taught to believe that they are right, it can take a huge amount of effort and time to heal through it, so that we do not become the one passing the baton of the toxicity.

Grief: Be it the loss of someone or a relationship, it can take its own time to be accepted by our mind and body. No matter how much we try to distract ourselves from the grief of the loss, it can come back often.

Leaving unhealthy relationships: Unhealthy relationships can be extremely manipulative in nature. Leaving them and starting a life all over again without the shadow of toxicity takes time.

Creating change: Be it incorporating a healthy routine or changing our lifestyle, making positive changes to life can take time as well.
