By Shilpa Nair: Taking a dig at British broadcaster BBC and Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar said those who play politics the other way around need to be “combated, neutralised and must face rational questioning”.

While addressing students at IIT Madras on Tuesday, Dhankar said India has a robust legal system where things are realised for the high and mighty, including the prime minister.

“For two decades, the issue was deliberated in judicial quarters. It was thoroughly investigated at all levels. The highest court of the land and the highest court of the largest democracy pronounced on all fronts in 2022,” said Dhankar.

Alluding to the controversial BBC documentary titled ‘India: The Modi Question’, the Vice-President said, “Now we have a narrative being set afloat by a documentary and some people say this is expression. In the name of your expression, can you run down my Supreme Court? Can you run down two decades of thorough investigation? This is playing politics the other way round.”

The BBC documentary pertains to the 2002 Gujarat riots when Narendra Modi was the chief minister of that state.

Dhankar also did not spare George Soros, who was recently in the eye of a storm for his comments on fraud allegations against billionaire Gautam Adani and the Centre’s silence on the subject.

Without taking names, he said, “There is one gentleman somewhere using some money power, he has some backers, he has some beneficiaries, he has some fiscal parasites and they talk about our country’s democracy. I have been appalled and pained. How can a sane mind compare us with a southern country without neighbours?”

Adani Group shares had a free fall in the stock market after US-based firm Hindenburg accused the group of account fraud and stock manipulation. Speaking on the same, George Soros had said “Adani is accused of stock manipulation and his stock collapsed like a house of cards. Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in Parliament.”

He further claimed, “Modi and business tycoon Adani are close allies; their fate is intertwined”.

“When people choose to play politics the other way round, they need to be combated, neutralised and must face your rational questioning,” said the Vice-President. He appealed to the students to be on guard and vindicate the trust of the founding fathers.
