The images, received on November 29, were released by Isro chairman S Somanath in virtual mode in the presence of Bengaluru-based U R Rao Satellite Centre director Sankaran and Hyderabad-based NRSC director Prakash Chauhan at IMGOES NRSC, Shadnagar.
In a tweet, Isro said, “EOS-06 commenced serving the images. First-day images received on Nov 29, 2022, at National Remote Sensing Centre, Shadnagar cover the Himalayan region, Gujarat Kutch region, & the Arabian Sea. They are captured by the Ocean Color Monitor (OCM) & Sea Surface Temperature Monitor (SSTM) Sensors.”

PSLV-C54 had launched the Oceansat-3, codenamed EOS-06, along with eight nano satellites, including the Bhutan-SAT, from Sriharikota last Saturday. Oceansat-3 is the third in its set of ocean satellites that are part of Isro’s ocean observation programme. EOS-06 is a multi-sensor observation satellite, which is expected to operate till 2027. The Oceansat-3 is envisaged to observe ocean colour data, sea surface temperature (SST) and wind vector data to use in oceanography, climatic and meteorological applications. It also supports value-added products such as potential fishing zone using chlorophyll, SST, wind speed and land-based geophysical parameters.
EOS-06’s predecessor Oceansat-2 was launched in September 2009 and configured to cover global oceans and provide continuity of ocean colour data with global wind vector and characterisation of lower atmosphere and ionosphere.
