By Samarth Srivastava: Uttar Pradesh has approved the recommendations of the Backward Classes Commission constituted for the upcoming municipal elections in the state. The Yogi Adityanath-led state government has announced this following a meeting of the council of ministers.

The Energy and Urban Development Minister, AK Sharma, said that a provisional notification about the local body elections was issued on December 5, after which some petitions were filed in the high court. The court ordered that the reservation process be investigated by forming a dedicated commission, he said.

The commission had six months to submit its report, and it was delivered to the chief minister in less than half a month, he said, adding that the council of ministers approved the report.
